After installing Ubuntu 6.10 on my Thinkpad T22 laptop, I was having this random freezing during bootup. That was due to the fact that X-Windows was having some issues on Ubuntu 6.10 running on Thinkpad T22. With lots of googling, I finally found this article very helpful. Follow the instruction under the section “Ubuntu 6.10 Desktop”.
